Son Creus is a rural estate in Banyalbufar, in the west of the island of Mallorca. It nestles in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The estate, which covers an area of 23 hectares, stands out for its hillside terraces and irrigation channels, a sign of its former vegetable and fruit-growing activities. Another feature of the estate is its hilly terrain, with surrounding peaks and high land like Mola de Planícia, Serra d’en Sec and Puig de s’Argenter, combined with striking views of the Tramuntana mountains and sea in the background.
Son Creus is made up of typical mountain habitats not easily seen elsewhere in Mallorca. From an apicultural point of view, mention must be made of the following melliferous or pollinator plants: broom (Genista sp.), wild radish (Raphanus sp.), common vetch (Vicia sp.), hawthorn (Crataegus sp.), fennel (Foeniculum sp.), holm oaks (Quercus ilex), heather (Erica multiflora), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), and strawberry trees (Arbutus uneda), plant species typical of Mediterranean mountain ecosystems.
